Ivana is originally from
Italy
where she attended law school and where she met the mariner who
later became her husband. She eventually moved to the
United States
and received a bachelor degree in accounting and finance,
with high honors, from Worcester State College. In 2006, she joined GHS as an intern, and has now risen
to Staff Accountant. She is also working on her CPA
designation and currently
attending Assumption
College
to obtain her masters degree with a concentration in accounting and
finance.
For the past seven years, she
had taken care of her family’s tax preparation needs and dealt
with different accountants who claimed to specialize in the
maritime industry. After some bad experiences, she now questions
their “expertise.”
Because of her educational
background, her experience at GHS, and her first hand
experience with the maritime industry today she can claim to be
extremely knowledgeable on the ramifications of income taxes as
they apply to merchant mariners.
After completing her
internship she decided to join GHS and was instrumental in
developing GHS at Sea,
with founder and managing partner John Graham, because after
years of frustration trying to find a CPA capable to maximize
her tax deductions she felt like her ship finally came in. John
and the staff at GHS, have extensive experience in the
transportation industry and the same set of laws that apply to
the transportation industry also apply to the maritime industry.
Her professional goal is to
help everyone who works in the maritime industry by providing
them with high quality tax preparation services which includes
getting them every legal tax deduction to which they are
entitled while maintaining the highest ethical standards.
